Notes

For the past six months, Hallel and I have been looking forward to going to the Phillies game scheduled for yesterday. So we’re here in Ocean City, NJ with the whole extended family, and as the day approaches the weather report shows serious thunderstorms scheduled for Sunday - all day. We got in the car anyway Sunday AM with the bro-in-law and cuz and started driving to the game as the wonderful warm summer rain began, but then heard on the radio that the game was indeed postponed due to the weather. Deep, vocal disappointment ensued.
In truth, I was as upset as Hallel… well, maybe not quite, but upset. I really wanted to go to this game too. We don’t get many chances to see a MLB game, and I love baseball. But hey, guess it just wasn’t meant to be.
We exited the Jersey turnpike to turn around and at the light we see a Dick’s sporting goods store and pull in, thinking we’ll try to compensate slightly for the cancelled game with something from the store for the kids. Walk in and this place is HUGE - I mean, in Israel the only store this big is Ikea… and this joint is just sports. The hunting section alone (shotguns on the wall behind the counter) was the size of our supermarket at home. I found myself kind of overwhelmed by the place, paralyzed by choice, but Hallel found a cool new baseball bat, and as we strolled out into the August Jersey rain, dodging the Cadillac Escalades on the way to our rental, there were smiles on our wet faces.
